The Municipality has been carrying out its Active Transportation grant-funded project at the Eco-Centre, the Station Street-Main Street Corner Lot, and around the Confederation Trail areas.
Shiny Paint created this custom, hand-painted 4ft x 8ft map of Mount Stewart, highlighting its gorgeous and historic trails.
Shiny Paint also painted this custom-designed crosswalk along Smith Street to honour our heritage in the strawberry farming industry, as well as our place on the Hillsborough River.
Dozens of flowering, fruit-bearing, and ornamental trees and shrubs were planted in the area, including two Ginkgo Biloba trees (pictured in foreground). Over time these trees will offer much-needed shade and shelter to cyclists, pedestrians, residents, and even pets. Trees include multiple varieties of magnolias, cherries, apples, pears, and crabapples, as well as a mulberry tree featured facing Main Street, a horse chestnut, a Japanese maple, and a serviceberry.
More changes and additions are coming over the summer, we look forward to seeing residents and visitors enjoying the effects of this much-appreciated grant.

The Rural Municipality of Mount Stewart is pleased to announce that we are one of the recipients of the Provincial GEDI Grants! We are in great company and one of only two municipalities to receive funding.
With this grant, we will be able to host four additional free seniors dinners here in the village in 2024, featuring diverse cuisines from Island-owned restaurants and caterers. Seniors from the village and surrounding areas are welcome to try cuisines that may be new to them, learn a bit about the heritages of the Islanders behind each supper, and spend time with their friends and neighbours.
Thank you to the Gender, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (GEDI) & Community Enhancement Program through the Department of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population for this exciting opportunity. We look forward to hosting these suppers, working with the Lady Slipper Senior’s Club, and bringing our area’s seniors together for food and learning.
A big thank you to Andrew Lewis Photo for capturing our Pumpkin Carving event, and for doing these free family photos for our attendees!
